About

“I was attracted to things that were man-made and decaying, finding beauty in things that were no longer in use — an abandoned dock, for instance, or a fisherman’s shack that nobody had used for years. To me, it was visual scholarship, preserving a reminder of what life had been like.”

Richard Toomey earned his MFA from Tufts University.  He also studied at the Museum School at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and earned his B.A. from Boston State College.   He taught Art and English in the Scituate Public Schools for 37 years, worked seasonally as a commercial lobsterman for 17 years, and continues to play Irish music professionally several times each week.  A native of South Boston, he now lives in Norwell, Massachusetts with his lovely wife, Patricia.
